EMLA 5% (LIDOCAINE 2.5% & PRILOCAINE 2.5%) CREAM | 30g/1.06oz

Properties and indications:

Emla Cream 2.5% lidocaine + 2.5% prilocaine – is one of the best cream in the world for local anesthesia of the skin and mucous membranes, as a part of which contained two anesthetics - lidocaine and prilocaine, which help to reduce discomfort by blocking nerve endings for transferring impulses to the brain by creating numbness of the skin:

• any area of body hair removal, electrolysis, permanent makeup, mesotherapy (injection cosmetology), biorevitalization, botulinum (botox) injection therapy, median peeling and others;
• for local anesthesia of the skin before the puncture, blood sampling, mechanical cleaning or surgical treatment of ulcers of lower extremities and minor skin surgery;
• for anesthesia front of injection of topical anesthetic also for surface anesthesia of the skin at the injection, puncture and catheterization of blood vessels;

The composition and release form:

cream for external use 30g/1.06oz with enclosed spatula

Active ingredients:

lidocaine – 2.5 %;

prilocaine – 2.5 %.

Excipients: polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, carbomer 974P, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

Contraindications:

• hypersensitivity to any component of the cream (discontinue use and consult a doctor if you have any of these symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat).
• methemoglobinemia;
• deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
• severe liver disease;
• premature neonates born at gestational ages less than 37 weeks;
• newborn weighing less than 3 kg;
• cuts, bruises and wounds, except ulcers;
• rash or eczema of the skin;
• do not apply near the eyes (on the eye), inside the nose, ears and mouth;
• do not use on children's genitals and the anus (anus);
• pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of the preparation

Common side effects (less than 1 in 10 people): redness, swelling, or temporary paleness of the place where the cream has been used;

Unusual side effects (less than 1 in 100 people): slight burning, itching or tingling in the place where the cream has been used;

Rare side effects (less than 1 in 1,000 people): small red dots (petechiae) or an allergic reaction that can cause a rash and swelling. In the second case you should immediately consult a doctor.

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older:

For small procedures (such as minor surgery on the skin):

• cream applied to the skin with a thick layer;
• usual dose is 2 grams, and is applied from 1 to 5 hours under the bandage.

For hospital procedures that require more in-depth skin anesthesia:

• usual dose is from 1.5 g to 2 g of cream for each skin area of 10 cm² (10 square centimeters) in size, for 2-5 hours under the bandage.

Use on large areas of shaved skin before an outpatient procedure (for example, hair removal)

• the usual dose is 1.5 g of cream for every skin area of 10 cm² (10 square centimeters) in size, on 1-5 hours under the bandage;
• cream should not be used to re-shaved skin area greater than 600 square centimeters (600 square centimeters, for example 30 cm x 20 cm) dimensions;
• the maximum dosage is 60g.

Use on genital skin before injections of local anesthetics (only for adult males):

• usual dose is from 1 g of cream for each skin area of 10 cm² (10 square centimeters) in size, for 15 minutes under the bandage;

Use on genital skin before minor skin surgery (eg removal of warts for adults):

• the usual dose is from 5 g to 10 g of cream, applied within 10 minutes without a bandage;
• medical procedures should be initiated immediately.

Use on ulcer before cleaning or sanitation:

• The usual dose is 1-2 g of cream for every skin area of 10 cm², to a total of 10 grams of cream;
• cream is applied under sealed dressing, such as a polyethylene film, from 30 to 60 minutes before cleaning ulcer;
• remove cream by cotton gauze and begin cleaning immediately;
• can be used before cleaning ulcers up to 15 times in 1-2 months.

Children. Use on the skin for minor operating procedures:

• Neonates and infants under the age of 3 months: 1 g of a cream to the skin area not larger than 10 cm² (10 square centimeters) in size. Usage time: 1 hour, no more. Only one dose should be given in any 24-hour period.
• Infants 3-12 months: up to 2 g of cream on an area of skin no greater than 20 cm² (20 square centimeters) in size. Application time: about 1 hour, maximum of 4 hours.
• Children aged 1-6 years: Up to 10 g of cream on a total skin area no larger than 100 cm² (100 square centimeters) in size. Application time: about 1 hour, up to 5 hours.
• Children aged 7-11 years: 20 g cream to the total area of the skin, of not more than 200 cm² (200 square centimeters) in size. Application time: about 1 hour, up to 5 hours.

2 Maximum dose of at least 12 hours from one another, can be provided for children older than 3 months of age, in any 24-hour period.

The cream can be used by children with atopic dermatitis. Effect time is 30 minutes.

Important information:

• avoid the area around the eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens, rinse with plenty of water;
• wash your hands immediately after use;
• throwing away in the trash, make sure of the inaccessibility for children and pets;
• Emla cream blocks pain and feeling in the skin. Be careful to avoid damaging treated skin scratching, rubbing, or coming into contact with extreme cold or heat.

Before using it, tell your doctor / pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, especially the following:

1. The risks of adverse or toxic effects, including heart problems or nervous system, can be increased – antiarrhythmics (e.g., Amiodarone, Dofetilide, Mexiletine, Tocainide), beta-blockers (e.g., Propranolol), Cimetidine or other drugs that contain lidocaine or prilocaine;
2. The risk of side effects, including blood problems may be increased – acetaminophen, acetanilide, aniline dyes (e.g. p-phenylenediamine), Benzocaine, Chloroquine, Dapsone, naphthalene, nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide), nitrites (e.g. sodium nitrite), Nitrofurantoin, Nitroprusside, Pamakvin, para-amino salicylic acid, Phenacetin, Phenobarbital, Phenytoin, Primaquine, quinine, or sulfonamides (eg, Sulfamethoxazole);
3. The risk of side effects may be increased when used with cream – succinylcholine.
